Categories and subcategories can display to your customers in many unique ways. The purpose of categories is to help the customer find the products they want quickly and efficiently by categorizing your products into various categories and subcategories. You can also assign a single product to multiple categories. Click the "Product/Category" link on the home page of your admin area to begin management. PARENT/CHILD RELATIONSHIP: The category system works with a parent/child relationship. Each main category has a "ParentID" of "0". Each sub-category has a "ParentID" defined as the "CategoryID" of the parent category. Therefore, take a look at the following example. Let's say you're creating the main category of "Furniture".  In the previous example, "Hp", "Epson", "IBM" and "Canon" are the first set of sub categories. Each one of these should have the "Parent" defined as "Printers". The next set of sub-sub-categories are "Laser Printers " and "Inkjet Printers ". These should have the "Parent" defined as "IBM". And as you can see, "HP" & "Epson" does not have any further sub categories. |
